The Great Spirit Path

Food

I need to carry my own food on the trail. To lighten the load I will resupply at Tuolumne Meadows, Reds Meadow and Muir Trail Ranch. At MTR I need to fit food for 10 days into my bear canister. Of course I want it to be light weight and have enough calories to keep me going. My bear canister (Bearikade Expedition) offers 900 cubic inch. This is tough. So after lots of reading labels, I came up with the following menu for a day. It is very similar to what I usually take on overnight hikes when I go with the Boy Scouts. I will eat every day the same with the only variation being in the Mountain House dinners. Lunch is basically like a snack - I only throw in a Gatorade in addition.

So for 10 days I will carry 260 oz of food. Together wwith 20 oz for packaging that is 17.5 lbs.
